forgotten but not rejected

A certain friend of mine has gotten into walking lately (she's competitive and is counting her steps for a work contest)...bonus is that she lives near me!  Well,  yesterday we went for a walk.  The previous night Matt and I had gone for a walk (see post below) and we apparently walked a little too fast and one of my shins took note.  So, last night, walking with friend and her dog...great walk, loved having a dog this time...but the shin is not so happy.  After dinner, I was at the point of limping.  This is not a *new* thing for me.  My shins often rebel against my walking.  I just take a day off and they're fine.

This morning, I knew I didn't need to wear my trusty rainbows but decided on the old faithful Chacos.  But where are they?  I checked my closet floor (where all the fav shoes congregate)...the shoe boxes (where the special ones stay protectively stored)....no sign of the chacos.  I'm worried at this point.  Did I leave them somewhere?  Did someone borrow them and "forget" to return them?

So I go to the basement where the box where the "extra-but-not-ready-to-get-rid-of box" of shoes live.  What do you know....inside that box, nestled next to my 2 favorite gray New Balances from college and my last pair of running shoes...lies not only my Chacos, but also my Birkenstocks (yes I know, not everyone still thinks these are a good idea, but I do, you're not convincing me otherwise, I love them) and an old favorite pair of flip flops!  I mean...what?!?  It's the end of August.  Have I not missed these 3 staple pairs of summer shoes until now?!

I'm so ashamed.  So...for the next month, expect to see me wearing my chacos, birks, and jcrew flip flops in rotation....oh, and my rainbows, wouldn't want them to feel left you.  I'm sorry shoes, I didn't mean to forget about you!

a fly on the wall

Scene:  Last night, after dinner, Matt and I are getting ready to go for a walk (because Matt has been working INSANE work hours and we wanted to spend some time together).  Bonus...we were probably the youngest people to be walking at dusk.  And we were losers because we didn't have a dog or two or seven.

So, I am cleaning up dinner, Matt is getting dressed.  He puts on his workout shorts and a wife beater.  I go into the bedroom to also get dressed.....

L:  "Baby, we're going to match, how cute!"

M:  "Oh no we're not....I put on the wife beater first"

L:  "But I was going to wear one"

M:  "Well, not anymore...I'm already dressed."

L:  "But it's the ONLY shirt that fits over my belly!"

M:  "that's crazy...you're overreacting."

L:  "Really, it's the truth!  but seriously...keep yours on...we'll be the same...it'll be sweet" (said as I put mine on)

Matt changed shirts.

a little slice of life

Matt gets such a kick out of my shortening shirts.

This is us at 35 weeks.

fun baby link

All things baby right?

Well, it's a big deal.... and apparently I should have already picked out my birth announcements, have them ready to place the order once we know the details and have a running list of who to send them to once Graham arrives.  I don't need to tell you that I'm a *little* behind and have not done any of these things.

I did find this site and it's sooo cute!  I ordered some thank you notes and the birth announcements are adorable!  There are too many to choose from and I cannot commit.  Ask Matt...I can't commit to anything.

All this to say, if you're in the market for some cute, printed, baby-related things....it's a fun little website.  Enjoy!

snack time

So, I just had my afternoon snack.  Ummmm, where has "Take5" been all my life?  I *never* eat candy bars, but this one was calling my name when I was in the gas station after my doctor's appt at lunch.

So I caved.

Go ahead.

Laugh.

But my snack is WAY better than yours.  So who's laughing now?

hahahaha

ok seriously, later, you should all go try one.

showered

This past Saturday was Graham's first baby shower...or is it my first baby shower for Graham.  Either way, many many wonderfully generous ladies gathered to shower us with things to prepare for his arrival!  It was such a wonderful party.....beautiful flower arrangements, fruit, salad, brunchy food...and tiny finger deserts!  We are so blessed to have such wonderful friends rejoice with us in welcoming Graham!  Here are some pictures from the party.

(mom loving that Graham's outfit matches her shirt, haha)

(such a dear hostess)

(I love you momma!)

true story

Matt and I rescued a baby squirrel last night.

Seriously.

It was so sad!  We were on our walk (because the weather was so nice, I begged him to walk after work with me and he did.)  So there we go, just walking...and in the middle of the sidewalk was the baby squirrel.  We think he must have fallen from the tree overhead and we think one of his back legs was broken.  But he was still alive and trying to crawl off the sidewalk!  The thought of a huge dog or human foot squashing him was more than I could bear.  So Matt and I used sticks to make a stretcher sort of thing and we moved him to the base of the tree.

Sad story right?

We hope that one of the THOUSAND other squirrels came over to check on him when we left.

In my dreams, they all gathered together and took him to a safe place so that his leg could heal and he could grow up to play with the other squirrels.  Much like the story of little Nemo the clown fish with the bum fin.

Moral of this story?  Always look down when walking.  We *could* have stepped on the little guy.  Also, baby squirrels are really cute!  It did cross my mind to take him home with us.

"slappy girthday"*

Today's the day....my daddy's birthday!  Birthdays have always been a big deal in our family...it's just so fun to celebrate one person for a whole day (or month, whatever).  Today at lunch, he had his favorite meal....spam and vienna sausages.  Good ol' processed meats :)

No, seriously, that's not the only way his bday was celebrated.  We had a surprise party for him at our house Friday night.  Success.  He was totally surprised!  We've been planning this for a couple of weeks now.  We had Bandana's BBQ, potato skins, beer.....complete with several of his man-friends.  After dinner, we played several rounds of Catch Phrase and the men topped off their evening with some scotch.

Dad, looking back on this year, there is not much I can say that expresses how much I love you...but this year has been yet another where I see God's grace and faithfulness overflowing.  Thank you for your love and example.  With little Graham on the way, I cannot help but think back on my fun childhood memories.  I am so thankful that we are so close and that now little Graham can relive some old favorites like "can't get me!"  I pray that this next year is yet another one full of fun memory making and growing in Grace!

(love you thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis much)

*I cannot claim this phrase, this one belongs to Matt (the wordsmith)

oh mable...

I wish I could, but I can't stop taking pictures of Mable when she does stuff like this.

32 weeks

So here we are....32 week and counting!

Little Graham weighs about 3 1/2 pounds and is just continuing to grow tons every.single.day.

He is "active" pretty much all the time.  He loves to punch/kick my ribs and roll around at all hours of the night.  If this activity is any indication of how he is going to be once he's here.... we are in TROUBLE!

Only 8 weeks to go....soooo much to do!

Jon's day of birth

Jon, welcome to your 20's!  Yesterday was Jon's actual bday, but in keeping with tradition (the one we've set the last 2 years)...we celebrated with a delicious lunch on Sunday after church.  The bday person always gets to choose...and Jon did not let us down.  We had a delicious brunch of Fritatta, french toast, fruit salad, and topped it off with chocolate chip pecan pie.  Jenny is a fabulous cook....and Sunday was just one more great meal from her kitchen!  Thank you for the delicious menu Jon.  We have enjoyed yet another year with you and praise God for how He is blessing you in your job and in your relationships.  We pray this next year continues to be a year of growth and tremendous joy for you!
