driving.

For me, driving is fun, it is therapeutic...it's somewhat of a sport, a game...dare I even compare it to a race?  I've always loved driving, the planning and strategy involved in "beating" all of the other cars on the road and avoiding those police traps.  Some might call me an "aggressive driver"... but I prefer to think of myself as a "smart driver".  Since the goal every time I'm behind the wheel is to win, to beat all of the other cars where I'm going...i might *sometimes* speed.  So...speeding presents another aspect of the game: don't get caught!  haha.  (I hope my brothers don't read this, I'm painting a pretty bad example to follow)  *I must interject here that I have a pretty good record....while passengers may be scared on occasion, I haven't been in an accident or had a ticket in several years*

All of this background to say.... I've recently turned over a new leaf.  I don't speed.  Anymore.  I heard on the news recently that if you hover around 60 mph on the highway, you get better gas mileage, so I thought I'd give it a shot.  You know what?  It didn't take me *that* much longer to get to work.  Usually I'm all the way on the left going *insert fast speed, which I'm not saying for my own protection*...and for this whole week I've been setting the cruise control on 62 and staying more on the right and I'm shocked that it's not adding more time!  Just think...all of these years speeding because I thought I needed to in order to be fast...who knew.

So, whereas I used to spend ALL of my driving time strategizing about the "gameboard" that is the road (much like checkers if you really want to know how my brain works) - Oh, and scanning for those sneaky police traps..... I seem to have much more free time to let my mind wander.  For this week anyway.

What do I spend my new free-time thinking about you may wonder?

Answer:  Missing the thrill of the race and being a *little* upset that the other cars are now beating me.

Hopefully my "new leaf" will last, it's probably safer this way.  Maybe I just need more to think about than winning.  Does this mean I'm too competitive?

***I must say that when I told Matt of my  new discovery...his response was: "but where's the fun in that?"

That,s my girl! A slow driver is a careful driver is a not being a gas waster driver which allows more thought time for talking on the cellphone. And that's the fun and satisfaction in that!

There is nothing fun about cell phones + driving. In fact I'm considering putting a personal ban on it for myself and anyone riding in my car – I'd much rather listen to music. Because let's be honest, anyone who calls me when I'm driving should know byt now that I won't remember a single word of the conversation.

Excuse me! Who calls who every day when they get off work and they're driving home fussing at the traffic and telling me what they're fixing for supper and wondering if Matt is going to the gym or not?????? Let's try that personal ban eh Leslie!

I (Leslie) have no personal ban on cell phones while driving, i do my best talking while on the road!

Matt accidently posted as me....He's the one who hates talking while driving. and it's the truth. He gave me the evil eye when I called someone on the way to church this past Sunday....and we were even in my car! Oh well...I definitely listen to much more good music when i'm in the car with him :)

It's mostly because I can barely chew gum and walk at the same time...it's not really safe for me to talk and drive. Also, I don't retain information given to me over the phone very well in such situations, so it's really a waste of time for whomever is on the other line.

Also, I like my music, and I like it loud. Who wants to be interrupted in the middle of an epic guitar riff?? Plus, I have to get it all out of my system before Graham arrives with his delicate eardrums.
