We use cloth diapers. Gasp! I know I know...I'm the last person on the planet that thought I'd be using them, so try to contain your shock. But I love them!
Thanks to a certain friend, I was directed to at least look into them for the cost benefit. I kindly thanked her for the advice with the intention of totally ignoring her. And I did, until Graham was born. We all (some other new mommies) said we'd stick together, we'd continue to buy our disposables and throw our babe's poo away....and we did...for a while.
But they all caved. Something about needing to save money was their excuse. I mean, how much could it really save?
(I was still using diapers from showers and big boxes that I'd bought while still pregnant...)
Then we ran out of gift diapers.
Disposable diapers are expensive!
So I went to this fun little store to check out what makes people go goo goo over these Bum Genius diapers.
I walked in a little overwhelmed at the many many cloth diapering options. The sales people are so friendly though. I've become quite the regular customer and have enjoyed their advice on many a topic and occasion. PS, I totally want to work there...they take their babies with them and wear them while they work!
After wandering around for a long time I left with 6 of the one size Bum Genius in some fun colors to give them a try.
Then I fell in love.
I love my bum genius! Since my initial purchase, I've since realized that I prefer the all-in-ones rather than the one size. We've been using them for several months and not looked back.
My initial reservations were about what to do with the messy ones (I purchased a wet bag and a little $6 trash can with a lid.) I wasn't sure what to do with the poo (leave it in the diaper while babe is still breastfeeding, shake or rinse off in toilet when older.) How do I wash them (directions here.) For those that know me, you know I'm a girl driven by cleanliness and convenience. So this whole cloth diaper thing must not be that hard for me to still be liking it.
I can't say enough about how much I love my bum genius. Diapers are diapers, you have to have them. But since deciding to invest in cloth for little Graham and any future babers, I've been very pleased. And yes, they do save some moolah, which is a welcome bonus as well!
Oh, you want to see the cutie in one of his diapers? Ok....click here.

i have very sadly fallen off of the cloth diapering band wagon, but need to get back on! i was wondering how many you have?
Thank you for still providing me with the disposals when G's at our house!!!
Brandy,
We use the all in one bum genius...sooo, we have like 18 or something of size medium and 20 larges for him to grow into. We bought them used at Cottonbabies :) What kind of diapers are you using?
Dad, you're welcome for the disposables. Eventually we'll run out of them though and you'll get to enjoy the cloth ones! Mwah ha ha :)
i need to get more... can you get used cotton babies bg online? i have 6 size large aio and have been putting them on my 3 month daughter... i bet she would appreciate something not so bulky ;-)
i also like fitted/prefolds and covers-esp wool... but the quick and easy aio is nice...esp easy to get off for ec(we do a little w/ her)
i find that i need a little splash of bleach sometimes to totally get rid of the smell-- do you?
That's a good question about finding the used BG online...I don't know. If you want, I could go and pick some up for you and mail them, just let me know :) Yes, the convenience of the AIO is sooo nice, especially for us now that G is so squirmy! You're a rockstar for doing the EC on your tiny one...earliest potty trained girl around, haha! I've not tried the prefolds and covers...seems more complicated than the AIO...I bet I'm making more of it than it actually is. And yes, I've used bleach once, after stripping then I washed inside out with some bleach to kill some fungus and yeast. But you're right, does wonders for any lingering smell!
